About

Hi! I’m Laurel, and I was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. I love this place, and really appreciate all the subtle little things that people may not catch just passing through, or moving in brand new.
Kingston is definitely a city of contradictions. While home to more correctional institutes than any city in Canada, it also has the artsy fartsy (and I say this with love) side of Queen’s University, the fantastic care of Kingston General Hospital, and one of the most beautiful downtown areas I’ve ever seen.
I grew up somewhere in the middle of all of this. My family were not ex-convicts, yet they weren’t Queen’s graduates, either. A family that came from a family of farmers and grew up on the outskirts of Kingston, with kids doing things that I wouldn’t even DREAM of letting my kids do these days (like the time I got lost with my cousin in Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area – can you IMAGINE??).
Kingston is my city, and I love it. This blog is a photo tribute to the things that I look at and enjoy in and around my city. No art or history lessons here – just what my eye catches and my camera tries to reproduce to share with you.
Thanks for stopping in – and if you see something that you like, please comment, and pass the word along. I’d love some company on this trip!
(For those who might wonder: All photos are taken with a Nikon D80 that I am still getting to know. Lenses include a 50mm fixed, an 18-55mm zoom and a 70-300mm telephoto/macro. For me, this just means close, closer, and closest. I’m working on it.)
